Athletics North Queensland is delighted to announce the formation of a new athletics club in our region. We welcome Normanton Athletics Club to our athletics family!
Formed in May 2018, this club acts as a satellite club to Mount Isa Athletics. They have a strong and passionate volunteer base that has helped to run athletics on a weekly basis in the region. Thanks to this club, regular sports activities are now for all ages and abilities to take part in.
Over the last couple of years, the Athletics for the Outback Program, managed by ANQ, has given Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islanders and remote Queenslanders the opportunity to participate in athletics on a regular basis through a range of clinics, education courses, visits and competitions in the region. This funding for this project has been supported by the Queensland Government.
As a result of this program, we are empowering communities with the knowledge and support for them to start running athletics activities for their community.
We wish Normanton Athletics club all the best for the rest of the season and look forward to working with them to help grow athletics throughout the whole Gulf District region of Queensland.
