Athletics North Queensland extend their sympathies to Kath, Mitch and Ryan on the passing of their husband and father Tony Hujanen.

Tony was awarded a Merit Certificate from Athletics North Queensland in 2013 along with his wife Kathy for their service and commitment to Athletics in the region.

The Mount Isa Athletics Club lost one of its clan last Saturday when Long serving volunteer and committee member Tony Hujanen passed away after a four year long battle with cancer.

Tony will best be remembered at the club as a quiet, no nonsense kind of guy but once you got to know him you got to see the razor witted side of him. He didn’t say much but when he did he would usually crack up the whole room.

Tony and wife Kath have been an essential part of the club since 2003 when both stepped straight into the age marshalling roles for their then four year old son Mitchell and later their youngest Ryan. He was one of the most reliable and dependable volunteers a club could ask for and would help out whenever he was able. As progression would have it they both then stepped into a number of committee roles. Tony’s broad list of positions throughout the years with the club include Age Marshall, Chief Timekeeper, Registrar, Recorder and Vice President. One of his proudest achievements in his Vice President role was that he holds the title for the quickest committee meeting ever. Both were awarded Life Memberships to the Athletics club in 2016.

Tony will be sadly missed by all at the Mount Isa Athletics Club and our love and prayers go out to Kath, Mitch and Ryan in this difficult time.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday the 3rd of April at 3pm at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family wish for monetary donations which will be forwarded to the Mount Isa cancer care unit.
All are welcome to attend
