In 2018, ANQ are taking a new approach to the Development Camp. Instead of having a 4 day camp in Townsville, we are looking at holding a 2 or 3 day camp in each Region.
This will hopefully allow more participants to take part, due to reduced travel and reduced expenses.
ANQ will be working with a host club in each region to organise and run the camp.
At the moment, Bowen Athletics Club and Longreach Athletics Club have volunteered to host the camp in their regions.
The Development Camp, previously called the Oz Squad commenced in 1996 Australia wide as a development camp for athletes who showed potential in their chosen athletic events. These camps are renowned for their use of experienced, high level coaches and sports professionals. As a result of these camps many athletes have experienced expert coaching, nutrition, sports psychology and strength and conditioning sessions which they may not have had a chance to access otherwise. A high percentage of athletes that have attended Oz Squad in the past have gone onto achieve great results in National and International competitions.
Athletes aged 12 and above are invited to attend this year’s Development Camp. Any athlete that is a member of an ANQ club or Athletics Australia can apply to attend.
The 2018 Development Camp program will include activities such as
- Sports Physiotherapy
- Coaching of all event Disciplines
- Strength and Conditioning
- Aquatic Training and Recovery
- Relaxation and meditation exercises
- Athlete mentor sessions
- Coach to Coach sessions
The camp also welcomes selected athletes coaches and any local coaches to participate in the camps various sessions. This is part of a reoccurring program to develop coaches knowledge through Australia. Coaches have a choice to attend the whole camp or attend on a daily basis.
