EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO GET YOUR SCHOOL INVOLVED AT THE 2019 OCEANIA AREA CHAMPIONSHIPS.
In 2019 the city of Townsville will be hosting the Oceania Area Athletics Championships. This prestigious event will see more than 22 Member Federations compete over four days with what promises to be high quality action. With many of these athletes likely to be competing at the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Japan it is a great opportunity for the Townsville region to meet the upcoming stars of Athletics.
Not only do these Championships bring talented athletes and the sport of Athletics to the region, but it also brings a diversity of cultures from around the Oceania region. The sport of Athletics is continuing to evolve as will be witnessed at this Championships and continues to increase participation across all areas of the sport.
Oceania Athletics Association in conjunction with Athletics North Queensland is inviting schools in the Townsville region to participate in the Championships. Interested schools may be involved in a variety of ways including but not limited to:
Adopt a Country
Adopt one of 22 Oceania Federations to learn more about the country and sporting stars. This program will include present high-level athletes coming out to your school before the championships to run an athletics program with your students. Your school could also have access to your adopted country’s athletes – either at school or at the Townsville Sports Reserve during the week of the Championships.
Attend the Championships as an exhibition athlete
Students and teachers will have the chance to compete in a small range of track and field events during these championships at no cost. Compete for your school against other schools to see who takes home the Oceania Schools Cup.
Volunteers may assist with gate entry, athlete welfare, competition assistants and merchandise stalls during this event. A great way to learn the in and outs of a major sporting event or to meet the elite athletes on the track.
If your school is interested or would like to discuss this more please call 07 4721 4998 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org before the 28 March 2019
