athletics for the outback queensland

With the support of the Queensland Government, the Athletics for the Outback Queensland Program was formed in 2017. The aim of the program is to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders the opportunity to participate in athletics on a regular basis and increase community ownership and management of athletics in Indigenous communities in Queensland. This is achieved via a combination of activities including in-school coaching clinics, education initiatives, community competitions and athlete support.

This program is presently conducted in the Gulf and Cape Regions of Queensland, Australia.

Athletics For The Outback Queensland acknowledges the traditional custodians of all the communities in which we serve. We pay our respects to all Indigenous elders, both past and present.

Athletics Australia's Athletics For The Outback reaches Indigenous Australians in towns and municipalities throughout Australia via a combination of activities including in-school coaching clinics, recreational running events and leadership and education initiatives.

The program aims to provide equitable opportunities for Indigenous Australians of all ages and abilities to participate in, and celebrate athletics in community.
