Welcome to Athletics, the King of all S ports. We hope your involvement will be a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Athletics offers a great opportunity for children to learn the basic motor skills, to keep fit and to socialise with others. For those who wish to progress further in the sport the pathways are also there.
No other sport offers such wide a range of events to all ages and to all levels of competitors.
The one downside to this is that it makes Athletics the most labour intensive of all sports.
You can help overcome this at your club by volunteering as a parent helper. There are many jobs that can be done without any knowledge of the sport and if you enjoy it your club can help teach you the basics of each event. It's not hard and it's doubly rewarding because you are helping not only your own child but also the club itself.
The sport could not survive without its volunteers.
Athletics North Queensland is your regional Association. It commenced in 1996 and is the fastest growing, most progressive Athletics organisation in Australia, with over 2,400 registered members in 2009. We are a not for profit organisation and support clubs all over North Queensland from Rockhampton in the south to Longreach and Mt. Isa in the west and Cairns in the north with 30 clubs in total.
In 2009 ANQ provided opportunities for athletes from 4 years to masters, officials and volunteers, to be involved in the sport of Athletics in some capacity. ANQ would not ask you to commit every week and/or every hour of competition to volunteering but offering a helping hand when you can, can make the world of difference and of course provides the athletes with a much smoother, relaxed and pleasant environment for competition.
In 2010 ANQ will host regional athletics carnivals in several areas as well as many major Championships. Details can be found on our competition calendar. We look forward to having you involved.
Please speak to your local club or contact us for more information on how you can help!
