During the upcoming North Queensland Championships ANQ will be offering opportunities to new and upcoming officials who may be interested in being a part of a Mentor/Mentee program.Â
With Brisbane being announced as the host city for the 2032 Olympics, this is a great opportunity to develop your officiating know how in all event groups and work with some of the most knowledgeable officials in Australian athletics right here in North Queensland. Our officials have experience at regional level right through to international level.Â
During your time with your mentor, you will gain advice, advance your officiating knowledge and lay the foundation for a future career in officiating. Without officials our sport wouldn’t function. Knowledgeable and confident officials create a safe, fair and enjoyable environment for all athletes to compete in and this will continue to allow a high standard of athletics competitions to be held in North Queensland for years to come. You could play an important part in contributing to that success. Learn how to apply the knowledge you have learnt in theory to a competition environment, spoken and unspoken rules, safety or any area of officiating you would like to know about.
We will introduce you to a senior North Queensland official prior to competition who will act as your mentor, along with an event official on site. Your mentor will also be available to contact any time after the championships.Â
To be entitled to this exciting opportunity you must be actively officiating and be currently registered as an official in the North Queensland Official’s Club or similar with another association looking to start your career in officiating. Successful applicants will be notified by email or via phone. Applicants will be drawn at random.
We encourage anyone who is new to officiating or looking for some mentoring to take up this opportunity. There are limited spots available. You will also need to register on the North Queensland Technical Officials and Volunteer link below on the Athletics North Queensland website if you have not already done so.
