Athletics North Queensland is devoted in conducting the 2020 North Queensland Championships. For many, these Championships offers social, competition and qualification opportunity.
Present and future government restrictions for large events mean that the North Queensland Championships will have to be altered for it to be able to be held. Athletics North Queensland is in regular communicating with local and state bodies to assist with planning for these championships.
At this stage we can confirm that if restrictions allow, we will be conducting the North Queensland Championships in Mackay between the 2-4 October 2020 (Long Weekend). Our first priority will be offering events for 11 years to Open athletes to ensure they have the qualification opportunities for National events. If restrictions favourable/reduced we will look at including the 4-10 year and master age groups. Non-qualification events may not be offered as a result of the restrictions.
If an outbreak occurs, or heavier restrictions are enforced we will explore further options. These may include conducting the North Queensland Championships over multiple cities on one day.
The support from Clubs, Athletes, Technical Officials and Volunteers will be vital for these Championships to go ahead. We ask those that are planning to go to the North Queensland Championships to spare 2 minutes of their time to fill in this online survey.
