ATHLETICS AUSTRALIA ANTI-DOPING POLICY AND SUPPLEMENT POLICY
As an athlete, YOU are responsible for what you ingest, inject or eat. It is up to YOU to know what substances are safe. Sometimes food, drinks, supplements and even medication prescribed by a doctor when you are unwell can contain banned substances. As Athletics North Queensland is a registered Member Association of Athletics Australia, all affiliated ANQ clubs must follow the rules and regulations of Athletics Australia. As a registered member of an ANQ Club you fall into this category. This means that as an athlete competing in certain competitions in Australia you may be chosen to be drug tested by Sport Integrity Australia.
Athletics Australia have developed an Anti-Doping Policy and a Supplement Policy that YOU, your parents and coaches should be familiar with. Ignorance and a lack of awareness is not an excuse. It is important to be well informed about what your rights and obligations are as an athlete.
If you are ever called upon to provide a sample it is important that you are familiar with the process involved. Sport Integrity Australia have created a video of what to expect if you are chosen for a drug test. Please click on the link to watch the video and read further to view the policies. We have also provided a written version of the process involved called ”Athlete Guide to Sample Collection” and information about Therapeutic Use Exemptions. A Therapeutic Use Exemption is an exemption that allows an athlete to use, for therapeutic purposes only, an otherwise prohibited substance or method (of administering a substance).
To learn more about Drugs in Sport we have created a link to the Sports Integrity Australia website where you can complete anti-doping education courses for FREE.
As an athlete it is important to be aware of issues that are considered to lack integrity or be unethical such as doping, discrimination and unethical behaviour. As a result an e-book by Sport Integrity Australia relating to integrity in sport has been included on this page.
