Our mission is to improve health, social, well-being and performance outcomes of all members, regardless of ability, through their involvement in walking, running, coaching, volunteering and club management.
Whitsunday Running Club was formed in June 2012 by a group of enthusiastic runners, of all ages and ability, who were mostly looking for some motivation, encouragement, inspiration, training partners and a disciplined training program, but overall a social environment in which to train and get fit.
Airlie Beach offers a beautiful environment in which to train, for both scenery and climate. With the Conway National Park on our doorstep, which boasts the challenging 28km Run the Great Whitsunday Trail (Conway Circuit), and the 74 Whitsunday Islands on our doorstep, plus the scenic Bicentennial Walkway in Airlie Beach, we are spoilt for choices. Airlie Beach annual temperatures range from a minimum of 15 deg to 33 deg.
The Club is affiliated with Athletics North Qld which lends support and training to its road running clubs. Within the club are members who have coaching certificates and personal trainers, who will work with club members to assist them to achieve their goals. Many of our members have come from recreational runners pre June 2012 to competing in major races, up to marathon distance, both locally and overseas.
Annual membership of the club is $55 per adult, with other categories available. Your annual fee includes the affiliation fee with Athletics NQ, allowing members to participate and compete in both road running events and training, plus track and field events, and be covered with comprehensive insurance through Athletics Australia.
