The North Queensland Championships continue to be the Premier Regional Athletics Championships in Australia. Recognised as a National Permit Meet, this event attracts athletes from across the state and beyond. Athletes will be travelling from all areas of Queensland – Gold Coast to the Cape and as far west as Mount Isa, including a large number from one of the most remote clubs in Australia – Normanton Athletics.  A large number of athletes are also travelling from a range of states and territories across Australia and the Oceania Region.

This event is open to all ages and abilities who are members of Athletics North Queensland, Queensland Athletics or other Athletics Australia or World Athletics members.

The North Queensland Championships also serves as a qualifying event for the North Queensland All Schools Team. School-based athletes aged 12–17 years can qualify for the National All Schools Championships by competing at the North Queensland Championships. Refer to the ANQ teams page for more details.
