Tassal Group Airlie Beach Marathon Festival on 17/18 July 2021.
This year’s Airlie Beach Marathon Festival has a new naming rights sponsor in the Tassal Group who are busy expanding their prawn farm operations in the Whitsundays. The Proserpine prawn farm is Tassal Group’s largest and also one of the largest employers in the Whitsundays. The Athletics North Queensland Championship Marathon is the marquee event of the festival and a great field of athletes is expected. The 2019 defending champions, Jodie Henley and Adrian Whittaker and 2018 winner, Oliver Carey has entered this year’s race. The men’s champion will be challenged by Caleb Noble, an Australian Triathlete and Noosa Marathon Champion Caleb won the Noosa Marathon in 2019 in a time of 2:31:32.2. This year’s festival will introduce the Airlie Beach Foreshore Magic Mile to be run on Saturday, 17 July at 4:00pm. There is prize money for the fastest male and female and ribbons awarded in the 6-9 and 10-15 year age groups. The festival also caters for all age groups from 4 years old and up. It features races of 1 mile, 1 km, 2 km, 5km, 10km, 21.1km and 42.2 km. The Event Manager and President of the Whitsunday Running Club, Tim McQuoid-Mason said: “It is great to have a nationally recognised brand like the Tassal Group supporting our marathon festival as it grows into a national and international event and to have support from an athlete like Caleb Noble augurs well for the future.” More information about the event can be found on the festival website at www.runairlie.com.au .
